What Autotask actually is
Autotask PSA is one of the oldest and most widely deployed professional services automation platforms in the managed services market, now part of Kaseya’s portfolio alongside Datto RMM and a substantial range of other MSP products. It is a mature, capable platform with deep contract management, extensive reporting and a very large integration ecosystem, and it is proven at scales far beyond anything we have tested. The considerations that come up in conversation are rarely about capability. They are about the shape of the commercial relationship - portfolio bundling, contract terms and the experience of being a smaller customer of a very large vendor.
Credit where it is due
What Autotask does well
These are the real reasons it has the customers it has. If two or more of them describe something you need, weight them heavily.
Deeply mature contract, billing and reporting functionality developed over many years of MSP use.
Very large integration ecosystem - almost any tool in the MSP stack has an existing connector.
Tight integration with Datto RMM and the wider Kaseya portfolio for firms committed to that stack.
Proven at scale, with reference customers far larger than most providers will ever need.
Side by side
The differences that actually change the decision
Not a feature checklist. These are the structural differences - licensing, scope, who implements it - that determine whether a system fits, and they are the ones nobody tells you until month four.

Worth checking
Questions to put to them before you sign
None of these are faults. They are design decisions with consequences, and every one of them is answerable - so ask.
Portfolio dynamics
Being part of a large multi-product vendor group brings integration advantages within the portfolio, and a commercial relationship that is more structured than that of a small independent supplier. Read the contract terms carefully, particularly around term length and renewal.
Sized for larger providers
The depth of functionality reflects a customer base that includes very large MSPs. A ten-technician firm gets a capable platform, and also a good deal of surface area it will not use.
Implementation is a project
A platform of this depth is not configured in a fortnight. Budget for the implementation effort as a distinct line item, in time as well as money.
Pricing is quoted, not published
Licensing shape varies by portfolio arrangement and contract. Ask for a full multi-year total including any bundled products before comparing against anything.
If you are already committed to the Datto and Kaseya stack, the integration depth within that portfolio is a real and substantial advantage that we cannot match. The same applies if you are above fifty technicians, if you need the reporting depth that a fifteen-year-old platform accumulates, or if procurement requires a vendor with a long track record. Those are all good reasons and we will not argue with them.
If you do move
What leaving Autotask actually involves
- 1
The contract comes first
Check your term, notice period and renewal date before anything else. This is consistently the largest practical constraint on timing, and it is better found now than in month three of a migration.
- 2
Ticket history is the priority
Clients, contacts, sites and contracts all matter, but the resolved incident history is what makes the knowledgebase and retrieval useful immediately.
- 3
Map every integration
List every tool connected to the current PSA and what it does. Some will have a direct equivalent, some will be built against our API, and some will not be replaced at all - and knowing which is which before you commit is the whole point.
Questions
What people ask when comparing us with Autotask
For a provider of five to fifty technicians who wants clients, services, renewals, service desk, projects, knowledge and reviews on one model - yes. For a large provider needing fifteen years of accumulated functional depth, no, and we would rather say that now.
Yes. We integrate with RMM platforms through webhooks and API rather than trying to replace them. You would lose the in-portfolio integration depth and keep the RMM your engineers know.
We publish a per-technician monthly price and a fixed implementation fee. Autotask is quoted, and often as part of a wider portfolio arrangement, so the only meaningful comparison is a full multi-year total from both suppliers in writing.
Migrated history is queryable in CubeMSP, but bespoke reports built in Autotask are rebuilt rather than transferred. We list the reports you actually use at discovery - it is usually a much shorter list than people expect.
