What HaloPSA actually is
HaloPSA is a full professional services automation platform built specifically for managed service providers, developed in the UK and available in cloud or on-premise deployments. Its defining characteristic is configurability: almost every workflow, field, form, approval and automation can be reshaped, which makes it capable of modelling operations that other products simply cannot express. That flexibility is valuable, and it is also the trade-off. Configuration is a project in itself, and providers who go in without a clear picture of how they want to work tend to end up with a system that reflects their indecision rather than their process. We are a much younger product with a much narrower opinion about how an MSP should run, and for some firms that is exactly wrong.
Credit where it is due
What HaloPSA does well
These are the real reasons it has the customers it has. If two or more of them describe something you need, weight them heavily.
Exceptional configurability - workflows, forms, approvals and automations can be shaped to almost any operation.
Broad functional coverage, from the service desk through contracts, billing and reporting.
UK developed and UK supported, with a strong understanding of the British MSP market.
A large and active customer community, so most configuration questions have been answered by somebody before.
Side by side
The differences that actually change the decision
Not a feature checklist. These are the structural differences - licensing, scope, who implements it - that determine whether a system fits, and they are the ones nobody tells you until month four.

Worth checking
Questions to put to them before you sign
None of these are faults. They are design decisions with consequences, and every one of them is answerable - so ask.
Configuration is the implementation
The flexibility that makes Halo powerful means the setup decisions are yours to make and yours to get wrong. Providers who arrive without a settled view of their own process frequently spend longer configuring than they expected to.
Breadth means depth of learning
A platform that can do almost anything has a surface area to match. Getting a service desk productive on it is straightforward; getting the whole firm using the whole product is a longer road.
Client-facing output is a build, not a default
Client reporting and portals are highly customisable, which means they are also something you design and construct rather than something that arrives working the way you would want it to.
Pricing is tiered by capability
Licensing is per agent with functionality varying by tier, and the module set you need determines the tier. Map the features you actually require against tiers before comparing anything.
If your operation is unusual (complex approval chains, contractual models nobody else uses, workflow that has evolved over fifteen years and works), HaloPSA can model it and we probably cannot. The same applies if you have fifty or more technicians, or if being an early customer of a young platform is a risk your business cannot take. In both cases we will tell you during the demonstration rather than six weeks into an implementation.
If you do move
What leaving HaloPSA actually involves
- 1
Bring the ticket history
Whatever else moves, the resolved incident history should. It is what makes the knowledgebase and the similar-incident retrieval useful from week one rather than month six.
- 2
Simplify deliberately, not accidentally
Moving from a highly configured system to an opinionated one means some workflows will not transfer. We list those explicitly at discovery so the decision is made on purpose.
- 3
Run in parallel for a period
One team, a handful of clients, for a few weeks. It is the only reliable way to find the process detail that never made it into anybody’s description of how the desk works.
Questions
What people ask when comparing us with HaloPSA
No. Halo is an established platform with far broader functional coverage. CubeMSP does a narrower set of things - client records, services and renewals, the service desk, projects, knowledge and client reviews - with less configuration required to get there.
Because the things it does differently matter to you: reviews assembled from real data rather than built by hand, a knowledgebase that populates itself from resolved incidents, client boards without per-seat charges, and an implementation measured in weeks. If none of those is a live problem for you, Halo is the safer choice.
Clients, contacts, sites, contracts, services and ticket history, yes. Highly customised workflow configuration does not migrate - it is reimplemented, and some of it deliberately will not be. We map that during discovery.
Then you export everything, in full, in open formats, at no charge. We have deliberately not built the commercial incentive to make leaving difficult, because a market this small remembers.
